Chris Wofford

Director of Bands

I have been teaching since 2007.  I graduated from Newberry College with a Bachelor's of Music Education with an empahasis in instrumental music.  I have worked at Lake City High School, Boundary Street Elementary School, Whitmire Community School, and have been at Broome High School, my Alma Mater, since 2022.  
I compose marching, jazz, and concert music for all my students.  I live in Simpsonville, South Carolina with my son, John Richard Wofford.

Clifdale Band Director

Mrs. Amy Johnston joined the staff of Spartanburg School District 3 in August 2018 as middle school band director and assistant director of the Broome Royal Regiment.  Mrs. Johnston currently teaches at Clifdale Middle School. Originally from Boiling Springs, S.C., Mrs. Johnston received her Associate in Fine Arts from Brevard College in Brevard, NC, her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC and her Master of Music Education from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL.   

Prior to her current position, Mrs. Johnston taught at Northside Middle School in Columbia, SC for two years. She also spent 11 years in Northeast Pennsylvania teaching in Sayre Area School District where she taught band for grades five through twelve, which included marching band and jazz band ensembles. She also served as the Secretary for the Bradford/Sullivan County Music Educators Association (BSCMEA) and was the county representative to PMEA District 8. 

In addition to her teaching duties, Mrs. Johnston had a 22-year career as a military musician, serving the last eleven years with the 28th Infantry Division Band, an Army National Guard unit in Hollidaysburg, PA. During her military career, Mrs. Johnston also served with the 313th Army Band in Birmingham, AL, the 312th Army Band in Lawrence, KS, and the 108th Division Band in Charlotte, NC. She retired in May of 2011.

Matthew Guffey

Assistant Director

Cowpens Elementary

Mr. Matthew Guffey is a trombone player and native of Spartanburg, SC having graduated from Boiling Springs High School. After high school Mr. Guffey earned a Bachelors of Music with an Emphasis in Music Education from the University of South Carolina. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Music Education from the University of Florida. Mr. Guffey has been with Spartanburg District 3 for four years now teaching band and chorus at Middle School of Pacolet, band at Clifdale Middle, and general music at Cowpens Elementary. He is excited to see the growth the Royal Regiment has experienced so far and cannot wait to see the growth in the coming years. In his spare time Mr. Guffey loves to bake, play with his cats and dog, and travel!
