Mr. Graves, Principal of Broome High School, has been selected to speak at the 24th Annual Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The conference, from November 28th to December 1st, connects school administrators from around the country each year and gives them the opportunity to look at their schools through the perspective of students, parents, teachers, support staff and administration to create a plan to achieve excellence in school culture and student achievement.
Mr. Graves, in his eighth year as principal at BHS, has been invited to speak about graduation rate improvement. Five years ago, Broome High School had one of the lowest on-time graduation rates in South Carolina at 78%. Now at 91%, BHS has one of the highest graduation rate improvements in the state. Graduation rates at Broome are now the highest in school history.
Mr. Graves will share how building relationships, focusing on students’ success, and addressing the individual needs of students has changed Broome High School. He will also share several initiatives developed to help students become college and career ready.
“This is a testament to Mr. Graves’ leadership and his dedication to the success of our students,” said Spartanburg School District Three Superintendent Dr. Julie Fowler. “We are thrilled that he will have the chance to share this innovative practice with school administrators from around the country.”
Mr. Graves will speak at the conference on Friday, December 1st.
