The purpose of the Library Advisory Committee is to provide instructional support and aid in the appropriate selection of curriculum materials and services in each school library.
Each school will develop a Library Advisory Committee made up of the school librarian and at least one parent, one community member and two current faculty members. All book orders will be reviewed and approved by the Library Advisory Committee prior to any purchase. The librarian will work with administration to select committee members.
Professional training will be provided to committee members annually by school librarians.
The training will consist of:
The purpose of the school library collection and how it meets the needs of students and teachers
How to locate a professional review
Proper procedures on the selection process
Book orders should not exceed 50 book titles
The school will provide a timeline for LACs to complete their review
If there is a book of concern, the LAC member will complete the Title of Concern document and submit to the school principal, who will then bring it before the committee for further review
